Attractions in Khao Lak-Lamru National Park, Phangnga, Thailand

Malayen TapirWild Animals
Mammals animals consists of Colugo, Binturong, Malaysian weasel, Drynaria. bonii H. Christ, Bat and the big mammal animals found here are Sumatran serow, Malayan Tapir, etc.

Reptiles could be classified into the daytime living reptiles such as Idian or Bengal Monitor, etc. and the reptiles that you could find directly are Snake such as Iridescent earth snake, Malayan pit viper, and White-lipped pit viper.

Amphibians such as Bufo asper Gravenhorst, Rana laticeps Boulenger, and Heymon's Froglet, etc.

Birds, from survey could be classified into 15 class-orders 108 families, for example Crested serpent-eagle, White-bellied sea-eagle, Emerald Dove and Scarlet Minivet , etc. while the big birds could be found 3 types, namely Bushy-crest hornbill, Oriental pied hornbill, and Homrai.

Daytime butterflies, most of them could be found in the primary rainforest, especially in the creek or pond area. The daytime butterflies are defined as conserved animals totally 3 types, namely Troides aeacus thomsoni, Troides amphrysus ruficollis, and Stichophthalma godfreyi.

hornbillSea animals, for example the sea cucumber group such as Black Cucumber, H. scabra, etc. , the hedgehog group such as Malayan Porcupine, etc., the sea slug such as Feather star, etc., the fish group such as Morey eel, Lizardfish, Long Tom, etc., the star group such as Feather star, the crab group such as Giant murex, Tiger Cowrie.

Beaches
The cape near headquarters has an interesting nature trail, and those who complete the 3km walk are rewarded with a clean quite sandy cove. The trail leads from the park restaurant along the edge of the cape. At several places views along the coast and back towards headquarters are possible. The trail is fairly easy walking although there are a couple of short steep ascents and descents. Those who complete the trail come out at a small sandy beach which is backed by a freshwater lagoon. This beach is quite remote so many wildlife tracks may be found in the sand. Species seen include; Water monitor (Varanus salvator), Moonrat (Echinosorex gymnurus) and Crab eating macaque (Macaca fascicularis). monitor

Rock Beach, approximately 300 meters north of park headquarters, is a scenic beach with coral outcrops and colourful aquatic life to be found in the crystal clear waters around huge boulders.

Secluded Beach, as its name suggests is hidden away, 800 meters from the park headquarters. Rocky outcrops at both ends of the beach makes access from the beach area difficult. Along the trail that leads to Secluded Beach, there is a ‘foot print’ carved into a rock.

Lek Beach, It's the white sand beach which is very quiet and able to swim, dive and see coral. You can go to this beach by walking from the national park headquarters about 1.5 kilometers through forest and passing on the line of sea shore.

Lek BeachWaterfalls
The park has a number of waterfalls the most visited being Lam Ru waterfall. This waterfall is located about 30km from the park headquarters. Another waterfall is only 10km from headquaters; it is situated at the end of a rough track, so an offroad vehicle is recommended. The waterfall is a short 10 minute walk from the end of the track. This waterfall has been used as a forest retreat for Buddhist monks, a shrine and remains of their shelter are still visible nearby. The waterfall is a single drop of about 10m with a pool at the base which is good for swimming, this waterfall is best visited in the dry season as in the monsoon the quantity of water makes bathing dangerous. A Forest trail leads up into the interior of the park from here.

Ton Chong Fa WaterfallTon Chong Fa Waterfall, Is a large waterfall that cascades down 5 levels at a height of 200 meters The best time to visit is in December and January. Getting there: To get to the park, take Highway No. 4 to Wat Panasnikom Temple at Ban Bangniang Village, Amphoe Takuapa, Phang-nga province, to about 5 kms form the main road to the forest protection unit.

Lamru Waterfall, Is a medium-sized waterfall. It is fed by Klong Lamru (Lamru stream), a perennial creek. Groves of bamboo, rattans, palms, ferns and evergreen trees cover the surrounding area. Getting there: Take Highway No. 4090, approximately 4 km from Kapong District Office to Ban Lamru Village. From this point, the distance to the waterfall is 1 km.

Lamprao Waterfall and Hinlad Waterfall, The Lamprao Waterfall with 3 levels and the Hinlad with 2 levels are fed by the Plaibangtoh Canal and several streams.
Getting there:
Take Highway No. 4090 and proceed towards Ban Tungka-ngok, Amphoe Muang, Phang-nga province for approximately 4 km. From this point, it is a short walk to the waterfall.

Khlong Lamru-Yai, One of the important streams in Tai Muang District, Khlong Lamru-Yai is a major stream that consists of many creeks, each with a small waterfall
Getting there: Take Highway No. 4 heading towards Tai Muang District. Then turn into a small lane near the post office in Lamkan Village. Then proceed towards the forest protection unit.

Guesthouses are available in the park's headquarter and hotel accommodation and resorts can be found in the surrounding areas.
